Pakenham Horse Trials

Description : The grounds are located in the rolling hills of Pakenham Upper, the facility is shared by the Pakenham Pony Club and Adult Riders Club with very active members that have developed the grounds over many years and now rate as one of the very best in the state. In 2009 it was decided to change the event from its normal February time slot and it will now be held November each year. The XC course provides good footing with deep grass cover in a high rainfall area.

In early 2009 a decision was made to change the event from its February time slot to November each year, this change is intended to improve the XC course conditions for both horse and rider. More recently, the Committee have taken the step to remove the cattle from the lower paddock permanently and works have commenced to improve the track surface quality.

This year's Horse Trial event will showcase an upgraded and newly redesigned Wayne Copping inspired course. Earlier in the year the Pakenham Pony Club commissioned Wayne Copping to review the XC course and prepare a development plan. Following Wayne's visit the committee have been working with him and our course builder to develop the XC course in stages as many of Wayne's proposed changes will be incorporated for this year's event. This year the quarry jump and the large hill at the finish have been removed. The course now starts higher and gently follows the line across the land contours, working its way downward then with a short uphill run to a new finish line.

Several other upgrades have been completed to the Pakenham grounds. These include improved vehicle access with the main driveway levelled out and widened, a new one way road leading to the upgraded 4WD & Float parking area. New 30m x 70m sand arena and 20m x 60m sand grass warm-up arena. Future plans include another 60m x 60m arena additional water jump and further upgrades on the XC course.
