Lakes and Craters Horse Trials

Description: Lakes and Craters is a fun and relaxed three day event. The dressage and show jumping are on a large oval while the cross country is run on the hill side of the crater. Because it is a three day event, there is a trot up for the ground jury on the Thursday and Sunday.

Getting there: From Melbourne, travel through Geelong and Colac and into Camperdown. Go through town to the Caltex petrol station on the other side and turn left (this is Bowen st). Turn right into Park lane following the sign towards the recreation reserve. Veer slightly left at the next intersection following the sign down to the Lakes and Craters reserve/ golf course.

Facilities : Excellent camping facilities, including yards for hire and toilets/showers. You can erect your own solid yards and there is plenty of shade. There is some food available at times, but bring some of your own! There is a good wash bay.

Water is difficult to locate in some areas so if you don't have water on board, choose carefully where you park.

Tips : Don't forget your horse ID documents for the trot up!

Courses: Preliminary through to CCI *** :

All courses are of solid construction and the run across the hill where possible but horses need to be very fit. Making time is difficult.

Warm up areas: The dressage warm up is on the oval although once the competition begins, this area is restricted to the next few riders in. The showjumping and cross country warm ups are both on the oval.
